We were taught to run from strangers and monsters but no one ever warned us about the monsters that lived within. Anxiety became my "unwanted " roommate some years back, at first I thought it was not a biggie sharing my life with something else until it became difficult for me to do anything since 'The monster ' anxiety was overshadowing me. I felt like running but I was taught to run from external monsters but this one lives within me, I wanted to escape, but where could I go?
"Hey, Anxiety. Today, we are talking about the day you made me miss class … That was me sitting down with it (Anxiety) because I got tired of being controlled by it. I decided to speak up and share my struggles, maybe it would understand me and take it easy on me.
I was fed up with the constant feeling of worry and restlessness, we needed to have a conversation -an overdue reckoning with my insecurities and my fears. Thus the beginning of "STORIES WITH ANXIETY ".
I took it upon myself to recount each tale in my life- the missed opportunities, the sleepless nights. The moments of paralyzing fear the panic attacks both silent and loud. Each tale revealed how anxiety shaped my decisions and influenced my perceptions. It was a lifetime of struggles laid up for this 'Monster '
As I continued to narrate these narrations each day something changed. Anxiety, the once looming monster began to appear less monstrous and more human. Its grip on my life loosened as I acknowledged its presence and listened to its whispers. I realized it wasn't just trying to torment me, it was struggling with its own fears, seeking validation and understanding.
To fight anxiety, I had to embrace it -to give myself and it the love we gave to others. This journey has taught me that by embracing our fears, we can reclaim our powers and rewrite our stories with compassion and understanding.
"Stories with anxiety" continue to unfold still. Each chapter brings new insights and new challenges but I don't face them aloneπ. Through 'dialogue' and reflection, I've found strength in vulnerability and resilience in acceptance and acknowledgment.
This is my ongoing journey—to navigate the folds of
anxiety with empathy and grace and to discover the profound healing that comes
from embracing the shadows within.
If you are living with anxiety or any ' unwanted ' guest, I invite you to start your own " Stories with …..(what you are living with eg insecurities, ). Share your experiences, listen to your fears, and discover the power of self-compassion. Together, we can rewrite the narrative, turning fear into understanding and darkness into light.
STAY SAFE FAM π
