Self Compassion : The gentle journey inward

As we grow up we are getting caught in the whirlwind of expectations and obligations in a way that makes us forget how to be kind to ourselves. To be honest being kind, compassionate, and lending a helping hand to other people is easier than extending that kind of warmth to ourselves. Today we embark on the gentle journey inward, a simple yet profound act of love that we often overlook.

Imagine you having a hard day at school or work and one of your friends (s) gives you a warm long hug now that's the essence of self-compassion. It's all about extending the same kind of patience and understanding to yourself as you easily give to others. It's about recognizing that just like every other human you also go through tough times that require you to take a break rejuvenate and get well.

As much as we hate to admit it most of us try to project ourselves as perfect. We try to hide our flaws from the people we interact with forgetting that our flaws make us unique. I know some will argue that it's not true but our flaws carry more stories about our lives, they are the epitome of our journeys. They teach us to be strong, they teach us new things about ourselves, and also as much as it's not the best experience they help us connect with people with similar stories.  Accepting that perfection is an illusion is HARD  but accepting it is like wearing an honorary badge that tells our stories of resilience, growth, and the beautiful messiness of being a human.

Self-compassion goes hand in hand with self-care. Self-care is a safe space or sanctuary we create for ourselves it is a necessity for our wellbeing. View Self-care as a gardener attending to a garden of roses the act of glooming the roses is self-compassion. These acts can be as simple as taking a walk, going for lunch alone, coffee dates alone as simple as they may sound they are very fulfilling. You can have a list of self-care activities and also throw on a morning or evening routine.

The beauty of the journey inward is that it has no particular destination since it is a continuous unfolding. It entails a lot more than I have discussed feel free to research more about it and find what works for you. Just remember that you are a work of art in progress may you walk each day with a heart full of kindness and extend compassion to yourself. Embrace yourself with the tenderness you deserve.
